Are you looking for a fresh set of eyes for your writing? I have freelance editing experience, and I’m an avid reader across any and all genres. I’m also a writer myself, so I know how hard it can be to catch mistakes in our own work!
I offer a range of services to suit the needs of your project and, while I’ve provided a pricing guideline below for the different types of edit I provide, I’m happy to work with you to determine exactly what it is you want to get out of the editing process.
“Laura’s proofreading skills are immaculate. She is scarily thorough, a grammar ninja. Perhaps as important is that her notation is respectful and transparent, clearly marking suggested changes without recommending her own preferences. Laura can make sure your manuscript is print-ready, a godsend for any writer who is good-to-go but can no longer see the wood for the trees within their own work.”Fox Bailey, “Rose Knows Everything is Connected”, 2020
Proofreading is simply about checking for errors, catching any mistakes in spelling, grammar or word usage.
– £15 for a manuscript of less than 20 000 words
– £30 for a manuscript of 20 000 to 50 000 words
– £55 for a manuscript of 50 000 to 85 000 words
This type of edit involves reading and revising a reasonably complete draft, helping to maximise the effectiveness of each and every line. In a line edit I will read through your manuscript to ensure that your paragraphs and sentences are clear, coherent and well-structured. I will make sure your writing flows, without losing your natural voice and style.
– £20 for a manuscript of less than 20 000 words
– £35 for a manuscript of 20 000 to 50 000 words
– £60 for a manuscript of 50 000 to 85 000 words
A developmental edit involves a detailed look at the very foundations of your story. Amongst other things, I will look at the structure and pace, the setting, the character arcs and the tone and style of writing. We’ll look at whether your work has a clear audience, and whether it’s maximising its appeal to that audience in its current form.
The best time for a developmental edit tends to be early in the writing process, anywhere between the outlining and completion of a first draft, but an edit of this depth can also be beneficial if you’re a little further on with your project.
– £25 for a manuscript of less than 20 000 words
– £45 for a manuscript of 20 000 to 50 000 words

If you have a first draft, or even just the idea for one, and you want someone to help you take it through to a polished manuscript, ready for submission, then you might want to talk to me about story coaching. I will work with you to come up with a quote that encompasses all of the above levels of editing in stages, including revisions and encouragement along the way.
This is heavily dependent on the length and nature of your project, as well as whether we work well together! But if you’re interested, get in touch and we can discuss a pricing framework.
If you would like to see a sample of my work before committing to an edit of any level, I can certainly discuss this with you. Fill in the contact form below and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!
I look forward to hearing from you!
